Davies Road is named after Sir Horatio Davies who purchased the West Bridgford estate in 1889. Sir Horatio was a London businessman, politician, magistrate and a driving force behind the establishment of Pimms as an international brand name.

Many of the roads built in the vicinity are named after members of his family or places he was associated with, including Gordon, Ethel, Florence, Violet, Blake, Mabel, Cyril, Crosby, St. Helens, and Priory.

Sir Horatio Davies became Lord Mayor of London in 1898 and amongst his guests at the Lord Mayor’s Ball and Banquet both held that year were the Mayors of Abingdon, Carnarvon, Exeter, Henley, Kingston, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Taunton, along with Lord Balfour of Burleigh, the Earl of Tavistock, the Duke of Cambridge, the Earl of Rosebery, and the Duke of Devonshire which inspired local street names.
